The Everett File: The Gooey Gospel of Truthy Goodness

The Everett File:

The Gooey Gospel of Truthy Goodness

The Everett File: (The Gooey Gospel of Truthy Goodness) is a contemporary satirical novel of biblical proportions—and distortions. Two lifelong friends, a former seminary student and his eccentric homeless cohort must decipher the cryptic message of a dying man’s last words before serious harm comes to a revered international figure. On their surreal adventure, they unearth centuries old mystical secrets, have conversations with a dashboard Jesus, dodge the FBI, uncover the mystery of what really happened to Marilyn Monroe and possibly begin the unraveling of established religion as we know it. Irreverent and often hilarious, The Everett File carries on in the quirky tradition of works by Kurt Vonnegut and Christopher Moore. Other Amazon books by Steven A. Moore include Rainbow Bud: A Rock 'n Roll Tale.

Splintered Reflections

Shattered with the disturbing loss of both parents, Cathy struggles with her identity asking every morning as she looks in the mirror Who Am I? Riddled with guilt and plagued by the issues left unresolved with her mother’s disappearance, she reluctantly pushes outside the box she has created for herself. Rescued from her isolation by a new friend named Jane, Cathy begins to break free of her shell through Jane’s insistence that the world’s adventures are to be embraced. Further, challenged by a demanding, creative writing Professor, Cathy discovers the cathartic effects of writing as she learns to pour her thoughts and feelings onto paper. A wistful first love brings a touching element to remind us that there is a Cathy inside all of us.

As if emerging from a fog, Cathy’s recovered memories enable her to look within and begin to piece together the shards of her shattered life. Through her small network of friends and mentors, her self-doubt slips away as her confidence begins to grow, and she discovers that the answers she seeks lie within.

Many will identify with Cathy’s loss and loneliness, a condition which plagues most teenagers. While we feel her ennui, ultimately we are uplifted by the triumph of her spirit. With subtle grace, complicated wisdom, and striking emotion, Splintered Reflections reminds us of our human capacity for resilience, epiphany, and self-realization. This is a contemporary and relatable tale of personal growth, discovery, empowerment, and, finally, self-forgiveness that old and young alike will find compelling.

The Gilded Cage

Born to society and a life of privilege, Bertha Honoré married Potter Palmer, a wealthy entrepreneur who called her Cissy. Neither dreamed the direction the other’s life would take. He built the Palmer House Hotel, still famed today, and became one of the major robber barons of the city, giving generously to causes of which he approved. She put philanthropy into words, going into shanty neighborhoods, inviting factory girls to her home, working at Jane Addams’ settlement Hull House, supporting women’s causes. It was a time of tremendous change and conflict in Chicago as the city struggled to put its swamp-water beginnings behind it and become a leading urban center. A time of the Great Fire of 1871, the Haymarket Riots, and the triumph of the Columbian Exposition. Potter and Cissy handled these events in diverse ways. Fascinating characters people these pages along with Potter and Cissy—Carter Harrison, frequent mayor of the city; Harry Collins, determined to be a loser; Henry Honoré, torn between loyalties to the South and North; Daniel Burnham, architect of the new Chicago—and many others. The Gilded Cage is a fictional exploration of the lives of these people and of the Gilded Age in Chicago history.

AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE

By Eva Pasco
Augusta Bergeron: Dysfunctional.  Deceptive.  Demure.  More than meets the eye at face value, and stuck in a holding pattern, the town siren engages in reckless behavior she attributes to maternal abandonment until she eggs-humes her mother’s quiche recipe.

Lindsay Metcalfe: Pedigreed.  Privileged.  Proper. Mourning the recent death of her mother, the historian-in-residence hailing from Boston, sets out to preserve the legacy of an impoverished mill, but gets more than she bargains for when taking a self-centered adolescent under her wing.

Their alternating first-person narratives relate how an heirloom quiche recipe and baking rivalry between two bosom buddies redress erroneous assumptions, misdeeds, unleashed secrets, and malicious intent—all of which wreak havoc in altering the lives of those affected from the fallout of a tragedy.

Downstream

At the celebration of his hundredth birthday, local billionaire Francis Hearty Withers announces to the people gathered on the front lawn of Witherston Baptist Church that he has finalized his will. In it he bequeaths $1 billion to his north Georgia hometown of Witherston and another $1 billion to be divided up equally among the town’s 4,000 residents—in recognition of their support of a Senextra pharmaceutical factory. Senextra is a drug that enables individuals to lead healthy lives well into their second century, but it has some unanticipated consequences.

The group assembled to hear Withers’s announcement do not all applaud. One person carries a sign that says SENEXTRA VIOLATES MOTHER NATURE. Another, KEEP SENEXTRA OUT OF OUR SYSTEM. A third, WE DON'T NEED MORE OLD MEN.

Withers flies into a rage. He vows to change his will and disinherit the community. Two days later he is found dead.

In Betty Jean Craige’s first murder mystery a few humans die in unusual circumstances. A few others live in unusual circumstances. Who dun nit?

Unchanging Points of Light

Prior to the emergence of navigational technology, the captain of a ship relied on unchanging points of light in the nights sky to navigate his vessel in the darkness. These celestial objects were so well known and behaved so precisely that you could trust your life, your vessel, and all of it’s valuable contents to their guidance. You still can, if you understand them well enough.

Over the last 200-300 years our world has abandoned the idea that there are eternal, reliable, and absolute principles or reference points from which human beings can gain the power and the confidence to navigate through a very dark world. In essence, we are lost. It seems that we have also lost our ability to observe, critically think, and apply the laws of logic to what we see. Our lostness and the resulting error is increasing at a faster and faster rate as the pace of change in our modern world is exceeding human capacity to adapt.

Besides being lost, we are just plain confused about how we got here.

My hope in this book is to offer you the opportunity to take a new and perhaps unique look at the foundational concepts of truth, life, love, identity, sexuality, money, power, brokenness, belief, and light. Further, I hope that you consider what role they play in your life individually and in our culture collectively. If you are willing to experience the tension of staying in these questions, perhaps you can decide whether you are to conform yourself and your views to these unchanging points of light, or whether they are to conform themselves to you and what is attractive to you.

In my view, all of us are just trying to find our way through our life on this planet. Maybe we should work harder on doing this together, regardless of how different each of us is. If together we are attempting to guide our modern day vessels by these unchanging points of light, then I believe that we have a chance.

Stan’s psychiatrist, Abigail, is committed to help him find his true identity. She too must overcome her troubled background to offer him the redemption he is after.

A brilliant literary piece of the supernatural, redemption and love
